British actor Keira Knightley has turned up the volume on a Christmas classic with her singing rendition of Silent Night. The star let her bare throat take centre stage as she burst through the line, “Silent Night, it is on its way” at the end of her rendition.

Dressed in a full-length red velvet gown, the 31-year-old rolled up her sleeves as she began to belt out the favourite festive song. After a wobbly start, she picked up the pace and she belted out the line word for word, perfectly harmonising and matching her dress. Her performance was posted on Instagram and went viral within minutes.
For many viewers, including comedian and broadcaster Jim Davidson, Keira Knightley’s long goodbye came just in time for this month’s festive period. After all, it’s not every day that you get to see someone waxing poetic about Christmas. And what woman doesn’t sing about Christmas, at least once a week? Isn’t there something therapeutic about a suitably depressing monologue about the spirit of seasonal cheer?
Keira’s friends, however, were less forgiving. Some of her celebrity friends rushed to either side to denounce the instagram post. One wrote: “You went a little too far…We are all just waiting for the autumnal version of this video of Keira Knightley getting all sullen and goth. It’s going to be EPIC!”
It must have been a valiant effort, but Keira Knightley managed to leave her mark on the special seasonal work of its time and musical quality to go down in history.
